Even with his 19th Bevis Frond record, Nick Salomans music wonīt get boring at all. Hit Squad has more new ideas along with the good old spacerock head shakers, rock ballads, melancholia and a psychedelic end. New to the band is also drummer Jules Fenton. Go and get it!
So here it is. The long awaited (by some) follow up to Valedictory Songs. Iīm truly delighted with this record. I feel itīs the best thing Iīve ever done in terms of songs and performance. Having said that, I always feel like that when I put a new album out. However, this time everyone whoīs heard it seems to agree with me, so it might be true! I recorded it at Gold Dust with Colin Andrews engineering and co-producing. Ade played bass and Andy Ward did the drumming. There are also great contributions from Bari Watts, Paul Simmons and my lovely sprog Deb. I think itīs a bit more varied than previous albums. Thereīs some straight acoustic stuff, a batch of kicking toons, and also some pretty ambitious lengthy pieces. All in all, a bit of a corker, though I say it myself. Sadly, I couldnīt afford to do a vinyl version this time. I really love vinyl, but the demand has lessened with each release, while the price of manufacture has gone through the roof. I managed to shift all 500 copies of Valedictory Songs (only just), and still lost money on the deal! So much to my dismay, īdinosaursī is only available on CD. My apologies to all you vinyl freaks, but I have to be a bit business-like, or else Iīll be screwed. Nick Saloman
A new Monsterissue from our favourite Psychedelican. As a surprise it was sold at their gig in Berlin, two weeks in advance to the official release date. A feast for the fan, poison for the dealer, but who cares. In the titletrack, Nick is kidding himself a bit, as a Rock-fossile, but proves for sure that he isnīt. He is alive and plays his godlike solos, emotionally to the edge of human possibilities. Great and unevitable.
We have been looking forward to this release and we are not disapointed. Itīs like getting a letter from an old friend telling you was has happened since you last met him. Everything is familiar but still different from what you already knew. Nick Saloman is accompanied by Adrian Shaw on bass and Andy Ward on drums and Bari Watts joins them for one track. When you call the bandpage on this site be patient! Alie added all his records to the database and I think it is a quite complete collection.
A new set of superb songs, hand-crafted by hand. Nick is in superlative form on this killer studio outing. He goes to town on a variety of instruments, guitars, organs, mellotrons and sitars. Backed throughout by Ade Shaw on bass and Andy Ward on drums, with a fab guest appearance from Bari Watts, Nick shifts gear from frantic psych to lilting folk to out and out pop to powerhouse rock and back again. Available on CD with full lyric booklet, or limited edition 180gm double vinyl in heavy card sleeve with lyric sheet. People whoīve heard advance copies reckon itīs the best Frond album ever, and who are we to disagree? CD; Ģ11 plus postage. Limited edition Double vinyl; Ģ17 plus postage.
That must have been a great night at San Francisco! If you are a fan of the Bevis Frond you already own this record, if not try this one to get an impression of this fantastic guitar, bass and drum prog-psych band. "One of the most enjoyable gig of my life", says Nick Saloman the mainbrain behind this band. Well, I like it most to go to their concerts, but San Francisco is pretty far away from Berlin.
